The online store is open: plants for sale. Plants can either be bought online, at the Mother’s Day Sale in Winnipeg on May 9, or at the greenhouse. Opening day for the greenhouse is May 13 from 1-8 pm. This year the only date set in stone will be Thursday. I got a part time job and don’t want to give it up. Every Sunday I will post hours on the website on when I’m open during the week.
If you order from the website pick up can be anytime May 13 and onwards. You don’t need to pick up May 13, space is super tight at my greenhouse, but I always find room for all the plants. Pick up is either at my greenhouse or at the Mother’s Day Sale.
I like variety over quantity. The store has lots of varieties, but some have limited quantities. Sometimes the lower quantity is due to poor germination. I like to save seeds from heirlooms and they don’t always germinate well. I also find it harder to grow flowers than vegetables. Vegetable seedlings seem to not need that much care and they thrive and grow. Flower seeds and seedlings are a little bit more finicky.
Plants are started on certain dates so that they reach optimal height for planting out the first week of June. Plants can be picked up May 13, but they will be smaller. They’ll be healthy, but won’t be full sized. When getting online orders ready each plant is carefully inspected. If I’m not happy with the quality a refund will be given or you can choice a different plant. Small plants will grow into big healthy producing plants, a fully grown plant May 13 will not be a happy plant when it is time to plant outside.
Somethings this year did not want to germinate or grow nicely such as oregano and thyme. I find growing flowers, onions, oregano, and thyme to be challenging. I ordered lemon thyme plugs this year so if you want to try a different type of thyme lemon is a gorgeous plant, smells lovely, and has a nice flavor. Some plants I have listed on the website, but can only be bought at the greenhouse because I’m not sure of how many will be available.
