Garlic is something I have just started to plant. This year will be my 3rd year growing garlic, and second year growing in my rental garden. I’m growing small amounts and slowly increasing the amount I grow ever year. I grow both softneck and hardneck garlic. Softneck garlics are used in braiding and hardneck garlic grows the scape, which are amazing in pesto’s, omelettes, Italian dishes, etc.
Russian Red garlic is a type of marbled purple stripe garlic and is considered one of the best flavored ones. Once dried Russian Red garlic stores for 4 to 6 months.
Persian Star garlic is a type of purple stripe garlic. Once dried Persian Star garlic stores for 6 to 8 months.
Italian Softneck garlic. Stores up to 1 year.
Penner garlic. I bought this garlic at a farmers market and it had no name. I’m guessing it’s music, which belongs to the Porcelain family. The bulbs and cloves are huge! Stores anywhere from 3 months to 1 year.
When storing garlic it needs to be quite in a dry, cool, and well ventilated spot. Storing garlic in the kitchen is a bad idea. A root cellar is ideal, but most people don’t have one so if you have a basement find a room or closet that is cool and store it in there. Potatoes and onions can also be stored for long periods of time in the same conditions.

Garlic is quite fascinating and if you would like to learn more about garlic check this site on garlic
