It’s June!

The pumpkins are going in and the weeds are flourishing. Once everything is planted, I than tackle the weeds. This June is a little different as I’m battling a cold and laryngitis. I’m finding being outside makes my symptoms worse so I’ve been avoiding the garden. I’m getting a little concerned at how far behind I’m getting, but your body is going to do what your body does. I need to take care of myself first and than worry about the garden when I’m feeling better.

Also this year has been challenging with the weather and pests. I’ve had cutworms once before in the this garden and they are back this year with a vengeance. They are mowing down my onions and squash. This also ate 50% of my pumpkin plants. I’m squishing them as I found them. I’ve also been battling flea beetles. They destroyed all my cabbages and I’m trying to prevent the lose of my kohlrabi. Again trying to battle is difficult as I’m not feeling well. I’ve read up on how to control cut worms and not going to collar 5000 pumpkin plants and diatomaceous earth did nothing, but invite even more worms to the party. So……… The flea beetles are also resisting everything I’m doing so………

Some positives are the potatoes are looking good and the corn is growing well. The garlic is green and growing well. I also planted a row of wheat. I didn’t mark my rows this year, as I was just going to rely on my memory, well that row of wheat had me confused for a bit. I couldn’t remember what I had planted and I know weeds don’t grow that nicely and evenly, lol.
